Help Using This Site

Registration

To ride a Midland Trailquests event you must register for membership. It is a condition of our insurance that only registered members can take part in our events. Membership is free, does not need to be renewed and takes just a couple of minutes. You must register online as we have no postal membership application service.

When registering you will be asked to enter a password and you will automatically be allocated an MTQ number at the end of the registration process. These are used to allow you to log in to enter events or amend your registration details.

As the registration form is open to anyone, it is protected against certain security threats. If you get an error message saying your input contains invalid characters, please check it carefully and remove additional spaces and unnecessary punctuation marks.

When your details are accepted the page will change to show your MTQ number. We recommend you write this somewhere on your kit in indelible ink as it is proof you are a member of Midland Trailquests, and our organisers can verify your MTQ number is genuine. You will also be sent a confirmation e-mail with your MTQ number and log in details. Please keep this in a safe place.

Secure Password Advice

Although Midland Trailquests doesn't hold any financial information our database does hold your personal address and contact details and you should still use a secure password to protect these.

We strongly advise you to avoid using information that is well known about you such as any part of your name, address or contact details as these can easily be guessed. The same is true for simple terms relating to cycling or trailquesting such as the make of your bike. It is also advised not to use words that are in the dictionary as each dictionary word can be tried repeatedly by an automated programme.

Passwords are case-sensitive so the best advice is to use a combination of upper and lowercase letters plus some numbers. Don't just put a capital letter at the start of the password and the numbers at the end, mix them up. If you do this the chance of anyone cracking your password will be very low.

Logging In

You will need to log in to enter events, amend your registration details or change your password. To do this, enter your MTQ number and your password on the login page. Passwords are case-sensitive. If you are having difficulty logging in, remember your log in details were e-mailed to you when you first registered and again every time you updated them. You should, therefore, be able to find them from the last of these e-mails.

The header section of the site always shows your log in status, and if you are logged in, your name and MTQ number. You can log in by selecting the log in link in the header section on any page or by selecting Log In from the Resources menu.

Finding And Getting Details About Events

You can get a list of future events by selecting Events Calendar from the Events & Results menu. Clicking Full Details will take you to a page showing all details for the selected event, including the location, duration and cost of entry.

The registration times show the period you have to register at the desk before starting the event, and the start times show the earliest and latest time you can start riding the event. There are also live links to e-mail the organiser and to find a map of the HQ location.

If you want to print the details out, click the Print Event Details button. This shows the same event details in a new window or tab in a format suitable for printing. Select the print option from the menu or toolbar icon in your web browser to print the details.

Entering Events

Once the event details have been finalised an 'Enter This Event' button will appear at the top of the event details page. You must be logged in to enter an event, and if not you will be re-directed to the login page.

Clicking the 'Enter This Event' button will take you to to a page where you can specify whether you are riding solo or as a team of two. Select solo or in a team of two from the drop-down list. If you are riding solo you don't need to complete any of the other fields.

If you are riding in a team of 2 you must also enter the MTQ number, post code and date of birth of your partner. This is done to ensure you really do know the other person as some of their personal details will be disclosed in the entry process. Note that your partner must also have previously registered as a Midland Trailquests member or you cannot enter with them.

By clicking the 'Continue' button you will be taken to a page confirming your, and any riding partners, details from our database. Please check that these are fully up to date as it is a condition of our insurance that we hold correct details for all participants any you may not be allowed to ride otherwise. Click the 'Amend My Details' to link to make any corrections. If your partners details are not correct, please ask them to amend their details and then follow the entry process again after they have done this.

Please note that for league events, your category is calculated from your age(s) on the date of the first event of the league. This is done so you remain in the same category throughout the league. If an event is marked as a Standalone Event that is not part of any league, then the category is calculated on your age(s) on the date of the event itself.

Clicking the 'Continue' button again will then give you the choice of entering online or making a postal / on the day entry. Please note that the online entry option will not appear if the closing date for entries has passed, and only entry on the day will be possible.

If you choose to enter online, click the 'Enter Online' button and follow the steps through to PayPal. You can pay using your own PayPal account, or simply enter a credit card. At the end of the process please make sure you return to the MTQ website and print off the entry confirmation form. This is proof you have paid online and is needed to give the organiser your full details for insurance purposes.

If you choose to enter by post or on the day, click the 'Print Form' button. This will create a printable version of the entry form, pre-filled with the details for you and any riding partner, in a pop-up window or new browser tab. Print this form out and make sure both you and any partner sign it.

For a postal entry, post it with a cheque to the organiser (price and organiser's address shown on the form). For an on the day entry take it and your payment along to the event.

Please note we highly recommend pre-entry rather than on the day entry as each organiser only prints a limited number of maps, and if there are lots of other on the day entries there may not be a map available.
