Many of our events are part of a league where results count towards an overall league table.
Our events calendar shows whether each event is part of a league and if so which league it is part of. Clicking on the league name will display all the events in that particular league.
For each event, each rider or team scores league points based on their event score relative to the winner of the event. The calculation is as follows:
(rider or team event score / winner's event score) x 1000
So if the winner of the event scores 400 points and you score 300 points then your league points will be 750. The calculation in this case is (300/400) x 1000.
Each rider or team can then count a number of their best league points scores towards the overall league. Usually the number of events that can be counted is just more than half, so for a league of 9 events, the best 5 scores will count. The number of events in a league and the number of events each rider/team can count is shown on the leagues page. Where there is a tie on league points, riders/teams not including an organiser's bonus score will take precedence. Failing that the rider or team visiting fewer controls (and therefore more higher scoring controls) will be ranked higher.
Members who organise a league event are entitled to a bonus score in lieu of the event they are organising. This bonus score is calculated as the average of the two best scores they achieve in the other league events they ride. This is done to encourage more riders to come forward and organise events.
You cannot combine points scored riding solo with those scored riding as part of a team or points scored when riding with different partners. If you do this then you will appear in the league results several times, once for each different combination, so for league success it is best to either ride solo or with the same partner throughout. Organisers who wish to have a bonus score must declare how they want this to apply when they provide their event details. If they want their bonus to apply to results ridden with a team partner they must specify the MTQ number of that team partner.
Note also that your category for league events is calculated on your and your partner's ages on the date of the first event in the league. This is done to ensure riders and teams stay in the same category throughout the league. For standalone events the category is calculated based on the date of the event being entered.
The John Wilkinson Memorial Trophy is a competition that runs throughout the calendar year. League points are calculated based on the event winner's score as described above but these scores are aggregated together for all qualifying events. The event details pages accessed from the events calendar show whether each event is included. Normally all events run at weekends apply.
This Trophy is an individual competition where scores achieved solo or with any partner are added together. It rewards the rider who has amassed the most league points through a consistently high standard of performance.
The John Wilkinson Memorial Trophy is awarded in memory of John Wilkinson, who was one of the original people involved in the formation of our sport. As well as being a top competitor, he organised many successful and challenging events over the years. He worked tirelessly to promote and improve Trailquesting, and also to improve mountain bikers' rights more generally.
